Too Busy To Do Your Books?
"I'm too busy running the business to deal with bookkeeping."
This is often something you hear business owners say to themselves. Too often Tradespeople, contractors, and small business owners often wear many hats in their business. From job-site work to client communication, scheduling, and managing teams, bookkeeping tends to fall to the bottom of the list.
It’s not uncommon to find yourself catching up on receipts and payroll at midnight or dreading tax season because the books are a mess.
Why does this happen?
It’s not because the business owner is lazy, very often they are juggling:
Constant job-site demands
Client communication and scheduling
Invoicing and chasing payments
Family responsibilities
Bookkeeping pushed to the bottom of the list
Take back your evenings and weekends
When burn out happens, lots of things tend to go wrong. Things like inaccurate GST filing, Payroll errors, bank doesn’t reconcile with your books, and there are many other things that can go wrong when you are tired and stressed from all of your duties.
When your books are handled by a professional, you gain back your evenings, reduce stress, and finally feel in control.
You don’t have to do everything alone
Learning to delegate and allow professionals to take on what they do best, such as bookkeeping, accounting and taxes is a very smart and strategic move for any business owner. When you’re supported, you allow your business to grow.
One example for me was when we started our business, we knew we needed a website. So, I hired my sister Caroline Mills to help with this. She is a professional in digital strategist and website design. I knew if I did this myself, our website wouldn’t look as good as it does now. When I hired her to do this, it took a huge weight off my shoulders, while I could focus on other things such as building our foundations and building clients.
Delegation isn’t weakness or laziness; it is growth.
